Hints for Installation: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - For Installation Execute under Windows the File INSTALL!.EXE on the Installation Floppy-Disk. If the Installation Program doesnt work, you can also install manually by copying the File "DB11.EXE" from the Installation Disk to your Harddrive (i.e. C:\) and execute it there. The Installation creates the new Directory "..\DREHBANK" wich contains all files of the DREHBANK-Editor Application. The Installation Program automatically starts the Online Help if successfully installed. Follow the Links "Windows 95 Setup" and "Windows 3.x Setup" there. To start the DREHBANK-Editor execute "DREHBANK.EXE" in the new "..\DREHBANK" Directory. Further Information can be found in the Online Help "DB_HELP.HLP" and in the User Manual such as here under the FAQ. - The DREHBANK is supplied with the Preset "XG_DEMO.DBP" which can also be found in the "..\DREHBANK\PRESET" Directory. A Description of this Preset can be found as "XG_DEMO.TXT" in the "NEWFILES" Directory of the Installation Disk. This Preset only works with XG-kompatible Devices !. - The "SDIVER" Directory of Installation Disk contains an Drehbank editor based on the Emagic program SoundDiver. An SoundDiver - Editor - Adaption for DREBANK could not handle all the features of the DREHBANK, but is a 'good enough' tool to manage the most 'easy' cases. This version is only for testing. You cannot load and edit the "XG_DEMO" preset , because it uses some 'carry on' features of the DREHBANK, which are not supplied by the adaption. **************************************************************************** 2.) ROM (Factory) Presets: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- You can load the DREHBANK with different ROM (Factory) Presets by pressing a special combination of the 3 Buttons during Power-On (V1.1). (Without loosing the stored Preset in EEPROM !) The ROM Presets are created by MIJK VAN DIJK. ******************************************************************** More informations about Mijk van Dijk and his projects are available here: ******************************************************************** HINT: You can Store a ROM Preset in EEPROM by sending a "Store Preset" Command with the DREHBANK-Editor, after you have loaded it. User-Manual Corrections: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The English Version of the DREHBANK User-Manual is not yet ready. *************************************************************************** 5.) FAQ (Frequently asked Questions): --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) Q: I want to work with 2 Presets simultaneusly and send them alternating to Drehbank. But if i start the Drehbank Editor a second time, i get the Error Message "Midi-Out Device Open Error:...." and the second Preset did not arrive Drehbank if i send it. (No LED is blinking) The first Preset however can be sent successfully. What´s the matter ? A: As you see, the Drehbank Editor can be started in several Instances. Every next Instance trys to open the same MIDI-Out Device as defined for the first Instance. This fails if the Device Driver has no "Multi Client" capabilities, otherwise you get the Error Message and all Data sent from Editor to Drehbank is getting lost in nowhere. In this case you should use "Hubis Loopback Device" in conjunction with "Hubis Midicable". This "Wonderbra-MIDI-Device" wich is also described in the Online Help of the Editor has "Multi Client" ability. You´ll find it as HLD25.ZIP (or so) at ftp://ftp.cs.ruu.nl/pub/MIDI/PROGRAMS/MSWINDOWS or ftp://ftp.winsite.com/win3/sounds or http://www.simtel.net/pub/win3/music Install it by following Hubis Instructions. If you installed it successfully you will find 4 additionally Midi Devices in the List of MIDI-In and MIDI-Out Devices (Menueitem "Midi" of Editor) that are called LB1...LB4. Route the MIDI-Out of the Editor into one of this and connect that one with "Hubis Midicable" into your Device that didn´t work before. Now ervery Instance of the Editor you start, gets connection to Drehbank. You should also make usage of the ability to link Drehbank-Presets (*.DBP) with the Editor. (See Online Help ---> "Installation"). If you did this, the Editor starts by Doubleclicking a Preset automatically with this Preset. 4) Q: The characters in the Dialog-Windows are quite unreadable (small). Also the percentage-display wich appears during "Send-Preset" is not proper in its surrounding rectangle and the two hour glasses comes twice !!! Whats the reason for this ? A: Each Dialogwindow uses "Small-Fonts" with Size=7 and bold. This Font comes as Standard-Font within Win3.x and Win9.x - what means that it only may be lost if you deleted it intentionally or by mistake. If the Small-Fonts are not available in the System, the Application gets another approximatetly (less-) matching font allocated by the System. In this case you should try to re-install the Small-Fonts. ATTENTION: In Windows 98 there is also an optional setting for the use of Small-Fonts that can be disabled. This may also cause the same problem. Very high Screen-Resolutions may also cause less readability. (...for all other Applications too). A clear sign for the missing (or disabled) Small-Font is the appearence of ugly graphical effects like a shifted percentage-bar or 4 visible hour glasses. 5) Q: If i power down the Drehbank and switch it on again, my Preset is lost. What can be done to make it stay ? A: If you click on the "Send Preset" Button in the Drehbank-Editor, the whole Preset is transmitted into the workbuffer (RAM) of the Drehbank. If you click on the "Store Preset" Button in the Drehbank-Editor, there will be transmitted a Store-Command only, wich causes the Drehbank to write the current Preset from RAM into the nonvolatile EEPROM. If you power down the Drehbank, the Preset in RAM gets lost. If you power on the Drehbank, the RAM is loaded with the Preset that is stored in EEPROM, except when you hold down the 3 Buttons in a appropriate combination during Power-On, to get one of the ROM Presets. In this case the corresponding ROM Preset is loaded (from ROM) into the RAM. 6) Q: How can i get loaded one of the ROM Presets every time i Power on the Drehbank, without holding a Button combination ? A: Load the ROM Preset with holding down the 3 Buttons in the appropriate combination during Power-On. Klick on the "Store Preset" Button in Drehbank-Editor. The Drehbank-Editor now transmits a Store Command (nothing else) wich causes the Drehbank to write the current RAM Preset (in this case the loaded ROM Preset) into the nonvolatile EEPROM. Every time you Power on the Drehbank, the Preset from EEPROM is loaded into the RAM. In this case it is a copy of the ROM Preset.
