Anschluss von Tastaturen an MKE Connecting keyboards to MKE

(make).

MKE was developed for the connection to standard manuals of the Italian keyboard manufacturer FATAR. If you want to connect MKE to another manual or if you want to use your own manual and contacts please pay attention to the following remarks:

  • Each key has to be equipped with two contacts that switch "on" one after another. The time between the first and second contact is used to calculate the Midi velocity. Change-over contacts as used in earlier velocity-sensitive manuals cannot be used !

  • The contacts have to be wired as diode matrix. The schematics for the  keyboard contact boards are available as gif files (they show the double contacts for each keym the diode matrix and the connectors):

  • The contacts switching at first are labelled BR... (derived from break), the second contacts are labelled MK... (derived from make).

  • In the MKE the same type of connectors as in the FATAR manuals are used (Micromatch connectors made by AMP). The MKE uses female micromatch connectors (20 pins for the 2 and 3 octaves version, 2 x 16 pins for the 4 and 5 octave versions). The same type of connectors are available at the FATAR manuals. The connection between MKE and the FATAR manuals is made with 16 resp. 20 pin ribbon cables equipped with the corresponding male connectors on each side.

  • If you order MKE without manual please specify which type of connector you want to have at the MKE (20 pin for 2 resp. 3 octaves or 2 x 16 pin for 4 resp. 5 octaves).

  • The MKE is available even without the AMP micromatch connectors. In this case the corresponding pins on the MKE pc board are unused and you could solder the wires, that lead to your manual resp. contacts, directly to the pins without usage of the AMP connectors..

  • We offer cable sets for the 4 different manuals. They are made of one 20 pin or two 16 pin ribbon cables with the suitable male connectors on each side. They fit exactly to MKE and the FATAR manuals. The prices for the cables can be found in the price list in the spare parts section.
